New Program Aims to Stop Arkansas Distracted Driving Accidents
Distracted driving is a problem across the United States, but is especially prevalent here in Arkansas. In fact, Arkansas State Police report as many as 780 Arkansas car accidents were the result of drivers not paying attention to the road in 2008 alone.
To help combat this epidemic, the state has initiated Operation Impact. According to Arkansas Matters, the program is aimed at reducing motor vehicle accidents in our state by addressing some of the most common problems—such as distracted driving.
Operation Impact’s first meeting was held in August, and it was quickly determined distracted driving should be the first problem addressed. The group plans to meet again soon to discuss what can be done to reduce distracted driving in our state.
Studies show that creating laws is one effective means of preventing distracted driving, with regulations decreasing distracted driving fatalities by as much as 11 percent.
At Rainwater, Holt & Sexton, we know just how dangerous distracted driving can be. That’s why our team of Little Rock personal injury lawyers applauds the efforts being made to eradicate this plague from our road, and we are hopeful the program is a success.
