A Veteran’s Best Friend

A best friend can come in many forms with many personalities, but sometimes it comes in the form of a canine companion. A Veteran’s Best Friend is a non-profit organization that helps veterans with PTSD find their perfect mate. Adopted from local shelters and rescue organizations, the dogs go through a rigorous year of training. The dogs learn not only to monitor physical changes in the veterans, but also monitor for external changes in the environment- all to keep the veteran safe. The best part is this is all at no cost to the veteran. The committed work of A Veteran’s Best Friend has earned them this month’s Saluting Heroes Award.
