Our House

Since 1987, Our House has been empowering the homeless and near-homeless of central Arkansas. The work it does to keep people off the streets and get them back on their feet makes Our House an obvious choice for the Victory Over Violence Difference Maker Award. They not only provide a shelter and care for a resident’s basic needs, but work to prepare people to succeed in the workforce, in school, and in life.

The shelter features two dorms, one for men and another for women and children. Eighty people can be accommodated between the two dorms that feature common areas, a dining room, kitchen, playground, and a garden. There are also 13 units for full family housing. In addition to housing, basic needs are met. Needs like meals, clothing, haircuts, hygiene products, transportation, counseling, and support groups help get through challenges they face.

Our House works with residents to enhance their education and job skills while they are residents. Our House can help with GED instruction, college prep, Computer 101, culinary classes, resume writing, vocational training, and host of other services. The common denominator for each class is to make a resident self-sufficient.

Our House is doing amazing work in helping the homeless and near-homeless of central Arkansas. It’s an honor to present them the Rainwater, Holt & Sexton Difference Maker Award.
