Breast cancer affects more women in the United States than any other form of cancer. Upon diagnosis, many patients choose to fight back with chemotherapy—an aggressive, drug-based treatment that often includes Taxotere®, an injectable concentrate. Chemotherapy has well-documented side effects, such as nausea, fatigue, and temporary hair loss. However, some female cancer survivors are learning that Taxotere can cause permanent hair loss, or alopecia—a side effect they weren’t warned about.

If you or your mother, sister, or daughter were diagnosed with Stage 1, 2, or 3 cancers after 2005 and suffered permanent alopecia following chemotherapy treatment, call our experienced drug injury lawyers now. Our law firm knows how difficult it is to beat cancer, and we understand the frustration that self-esteem, body image, and quality of life issues caused by permanent hair loss. You’re not alone. Cancer patients are warned of the side effects they can expect to face before undergoing chemotherapy. One of the most well-documented of these consequences is temporary hair loss. In most cases, patients are told they can expect complete hair regrowth 3-6 months after they complete their treatment. But since the mid-2000s, reports of permanent hair loss after chemotherapy treatment have increased.

A study published by Annals of Oncology analyzed 20 female breast cancer patients who suffered permanent alopecia after undergoing chemotherapy. Researchers concluded that taxane chemotherapy drugs like Taxotere “seem to be responsible for [severe and permanent female hair loss].” Nutritional deficiencies and hormonal imbalance, two factors linked to female hair loss, were ruled out as factors among the study’s participants.
