Lakewood Elementary School Student Council

The Spirit of Arkansas can come in all forms, and we love it when we see children displaying the Spirit of Arkansas. We see that with the Lakewood Elementary School Student Council. The student council, made up of 3rd-5th graders, saw a need for a food pantry to help fellow students on the weekend. What started as something small has grown and they are now providing food for 44 families per week. They shop for the food, pack the food, and deliver class to class. It has shown them the importance of community involvement. The student council has also raised money to save a dog in the shelter, raised money to support The Van to buy coats and blankets for the homeless, decorated a local Christmas tree, participated in Fit to Live week, and The Great American Kindness Challenge.

We could all learn about kindness and caring for our neighbors from these community-minded students. We were so excited to present the Lakewood Elementary School Student Council with the Spirit of Arkansas Award.
