Zantac Class Action Lawsuits
In September 2019, the FDA reported that a carcinogenic contaminant known as NDMA was found in Zantac products. The amount of contamination was found to be between 3,000 and 26,000 times higher than the determined “safe” amount. As such, patients regularly taking Zantac may have been exposed to a dangerous cancer-causing contaminant.
The first Zantac lawsuit was filed in California, alleging that drug makers Sanofi and Boehringer Ingelheim manufactured, marketing and promoted a product that they knew contained a cancer-causing agent. During the time in which they marketed Zantac, scientific research has shown a clear link between Zantac’s active ingredient (ranitidine) and NDMA. Despite this research, the pharmaceutical company chose not to disclose this risk to either the government or consumers, thus increasing profits.
